I used to own a saxo and  i used the oven to heat the headlights up to split them so i could paint the innards black.

I was just wondering if there is anyway i can split my golf headlights to do the same?

    thanks in advance

If they are standard VW ones you either have to smash or melt the plastic part to get the lenses off. The sealent that VW use will absolutely not soften with heat. I went through several sets of lamps when I was doing mine before I worked it out. You will need 2 sets of lamps.

How did you do it? i have two sets waiting to be combined for one set of 'Joey'd' lights.. Any help on the best way to separate the lense from the actual light?

Guys seriously, use 2 sets if you are thinking about using the original VW ones, even if you do somehow manage to get them apart the plastic casing will be so badly deformed they wont go back together properly. It will also take you hours to do.

Either smash the plastic casing off then use a heat gun to peel off the remainder or melt the plastic off with a heat gun.

Trust me I've spent days perfecting the technique and in all honesty if I were to do it again I would spend £120 on the r32 black rep lights on ebay and sell the 2 sets you have for about £80 and save yourself the hassle. You will get cut, burned and frustrated and spend far longer on this mod than it worth. Mine look cool thoughYes
