Need a bit of help guys

Drove back to London from Aberdeen and when i got to the M6 toll services i pulled in and put the car on full lock to park it. Grinding noise and could feel it through the wheel. I couldn't see anything and when i got to London it was too dark to look.

Motorway driving NO noise but 1st gear movements i get the grinding and can hear it outside of the car.

I have a 74000mile tdi anniversary. I have been told i need new bushes for front of car and new shocks on the front but can be done nearer the summer.

Any idea what my problem is? Have limited time due to new year and have a course to do on the 9th jan for 9days

    Thanks for your help

    Tam

which side of the car is it coming from

drive it and get someone to try and hear whether it coming from the wheel end or more towards the inner bay of the car.

might be a cv joint as was mine and fixed today

Today i had a look under the car to see if i can see the problem

It only makes a noise with revs under 1000rpm with clutch in or out. Only when car is loaded with its weight. Doesn't make a sound when car jacked up!

Does the tensioner on the drive belt move when there are no revs?

    Hope someone can help

I have exactly the same, only on the cars own weight but mines just on the drivers side when on hard lock right. Like a vibration through the steering wheel, and a windy/grind noise.

It does sound like the noise is coming from the aux belt tensioner. So looks like i better get a new one of these. Any ideas if its a fit at home part?

It is possible that it is the aux belt tensioner, but if it is why would you be able to feel it through the steering? I think it is something on the drive-train personally...

probably because if its vibrating alot then the powersteering will be affected as it runs that too, my alernator light came on for a few seconds cos of this as its not got enough tension on the belt an so slips not powering the alternator correctly... i guess.

TazTam yeah its a 15 min job bit fidly but can be done at home requires patients too

Grinding or clicking on full lock on most cars would be a cv joint or driveshaft problem but the golf could be different.

Makes a noise all the way to full lock. Mine has always had a sound on full lock but thats normal. Gonna try and get a belt tensioner tomorrow and hopefully fit it but depends on the weather

best thing to do, put wheels on full lock so you can see in behind your wheel, have alook at your driveshaft and see if it has a scored ring on it where the ARB has rubbed.
