    Hi All,

I'm due an upgrade on my phone and have stalled the over-eager sales guy who will call me back tomorrow.  On the current contract I have (with Vodafone for £12.99 a month) I'm entitled to several handsets.  I've narrowed this down to the following two and wondered which you think best?  I won't have a phone other than Nokia, as I can't work them BTW, so please no suggestions other than those below or very similar Nokia phones.  I mainly use my phone for texting (send about 2,500 a month), but also make about an hour of calls each month.  I also use the Internet from a handset on occasion to check a footie result, etc etc, but nothing more.

Nokia 6710 - Positives - Sat Nav (Don't have one in the car and am not likely to be buying one for several years yet).  Also appears robust and easy to use.  Long talk time & stand-by and large memory for plenty of ringtone choices.  Negatives - Relatively new, so may be prone to faults (like my Nokia 6500 that was a total breakdown nightmare).  Also, as new, I may have to argue long and hard to get this for free (and I won't pay any money just for a phone, thanx).

Nokia 5800 Music - Positives - Touch Screen, looks flash and makes use easy.  Lots of music means it may be easy to st-up ringtones without having to load lots of CDs onto the phone first to use.  5 Mega Pixel Camera (even my main camera is only 2 Mega Pixel).  Negatives - Touch Screen - How does texting work on there?  Sending as many texts as I do, will this totally irritate me or slow me down?  (Right now I can send a whole message from start to finish without once looking at my phone - and spellings etc etc are correct when I send).

Any advice on these two is most welcome...

    Wigster.

I've not voted as only really know about Nokia 'N' series phones but just be aware that if the sat nav is the same as on the 'N' series you need to pay an extra fee to actually have it navigate for you. I can use it to generate a route and the GPS gives you a current position but the sat nav software will not actually guide you along the route unless you pay the additional fee.

Golf has now gone. Modded the A4 130 TDi Sport with Votex kit, custom grill, tints, 18's, joey'd lights, HIDs and ambient and puddle lighting so far.

That's well worth knowing - cheers.  Yes  That's further pushed me towards the Nokia 5800, just I'm not sure how texting works on a touch screen phone - seeing this is 95% of my phone use, I'd better get it right!  Chuckle

I have just had the nokia 5800 phone, my SE C905 broke down so many times I asked for a new phone of different make, went back to nokia, for nokia first attempt at a touch screen, i was very impressed, txting, calling people and accessing the menu is really good and the touch screen is very reponsive (very close to the iphone i would say ) accessing the internet is good and as it has a large screen viewing web pages is clear and concise. overall I think its not a bad piece of kit, ive had it about 3 weeks now. hth

I'm looking into the 5800 too and had a little play with one in the carphonewarehouse and it was as good for texting as my N81 8gb so that's going to be my upgrade, get yourself into somewhere and have a play with the phones you're looking at and make the decision based on what you feel.

My sister in law has the 5800 and its sooo easy to use. You can register your own handwriting on the touchscreen and then handwrite your texts! This actually works really well aswell, I was so surprised! or you can just use the little stylus and tap at the letters. Also easy.

Worth bearing in mind -  she got 3 months free sky tv with her vodafone contract! Yes

Thanx for all the replies and decent advice.   Beer

I picked up a Nokia 5800 Music handset today - free of charge as it's a yearly upgrade.  Party!!!

So now my 6500 Classic will be on E-Bay to earn some £ for the drinking fund.  Devil

    Thanks again,

    Steve.
