Its currently in the bodyshop having some bits touched up and having a nice badgeless grille fitted. I have r32 reps as winter wheels,

I'm hoping to get some new pics at the weekend when I finally get it home!

So I have had the car for over 3 years now, and never done a thread about it at all, I am more of a reader than a poster, but thought I might as well, as its will be coming to an end soon…………………I knew I wanted a mk4 when I first drove my mates 1.4, almost 4 years a go now. So this will be a look back and a build thread…..I waited until I had finished uni before buying….17^th July 2006 I came home with this:

First Picture - Day I drove it back from Ruislip.

Flat Black, 2000 Mk4 1.8T 97k AGU engined Golf, tints all round, mint Montreals, but everything else needed work. – I got it cheap at the time!

One of the first things I did was have it serviced, and the cambelt and water pump replaced.

On top of Salisbury plain, after a coat of Clearkote Hand Glaze and Vanilla Moose Wax

I then made a mistake (in my eyes, didnt fit into what i wanted), a kamei grill, only stayed on for a month before I changed my mind:

I will skip ahead a few chapters, as I cannot find any pictures, basically I got a Enfig 2000 aerial, from the group buy on here, and fitted a rear aero wiper, plus w8 light and loom from Shaq. Reiger gear knob from America, Kamei grill removed and black badges added:

Now I am bit of a bargain hunter, and a real impulse buyer, and saw a full miltek system with sports cat down in Yeovil, snapped that up as quick as I could: £220 lighter and a ridiculous 3hour traffic jam on the a303…

Spool up was better, plus a green panel filter added not long after this made a slight difference….

October 2007, I had finally decided that I wanted coilovers, after reading a few posts and talking to Jody at Midlandvw, I stumped up the cash for some Jamex. coilovers, top mounts, bearings, bushes all round…………..i actually forgot my pin number when I was paying for that lot :

Not a huge drop (-30mm), but being a country boy, any lower and id be looking at new sumps every month!

I had been thinking about wheels for AGES, and in November 2007 I had decided that Audi TT Competition alloys were it (more because a really good deal appeared which I couldn’t turn down)…………needed a refurb, but the tyres did last me a good year:

Just fitted….24^th November 2007

1^st December 2007 – Wet and windy, but nice and clean (for 5mins!)

Now nothing much happened for a while, as I go off the boil during the winter, but I do remember I picked up completely (all handles) new Netoptic Trim for the interior, and bought a couple of sets of the console bits, and mixed and matched until I had the perfect set! (sold on the rest). End of 2007 beginning of 2008, the Bora Vents were sorted, including creating an oem loom (all the correct plugs). Whiteline rear ARB was fitted, and front upper and lower strut braces were added. The ARB as expected made the biggest difference, as well as the addition of a Forge 007p.

Feb 2008 - I changed the front badge back to Chrome, and the rear to the smaller colour coded Sharan one (no pictures of this bit)

March 2008 – alloys were refurbed, I had the centre and inlays (?) painted in gunmetal grey, and the spokes repolished, and all relaquered, and found the correct sized centre caps:

1^st June 2008 – Ready for a meet at Brean Beach! (sorry a bit blurry…..), luckily I bought the R-Line bra when you could still buy them for £50, calipers painted red just in time for this...

I was itching to start doing more things to it (like bigger brakes), but my coilovers which had been squeaking for at least 12months previous, had started to get on my nerves, and I realized I should really get that sorted first. I had the rears replaced with a brand new set of Jamex shocks, which was stopped the squeaking! Unfortunately it was around this time (September 2008) I then started to have huge problems with hesitation and the like. I changed the MAF and temp sender, which made little to no difference, upgraded all the DV hoses (which admittedly needed doing anyways, that top pipe fell apart in my hands!), I was already on my 2^nd Ignition Amplifier so assumed it was ok, so moved on to Coilpacks and Cables. This went on for a few months, looking at parts, testing parts. At that same time, my thermostat failed, being an optimist I changed the temp sender first (my 3^rd), found it was actually the thermostat. 24^th December 2008 it was replaced!

Feb 2009, I found the cause of the hesitation – ignition amplifier!.....winter still/snow a combination of couldn’t be bothered, and not in the mood meant nothing happened until June. I had a week off so started painting things…….

In the same week 15mm hubcentric rear spacers were fitted, another eBay bargain...the bolts cost more than the spacers themselves!! And a good price for a Newsouth gauge and pod came up on the forum, so I had that.

Also fitted one of those hole less rear parking sensors (works ok I guess, a good indicator, took a few alterations to get it working almost perfect!), a very nice member on here gave me some better side indicator markers, and sold me his single CD dash (which I had been after for ages...thanks Jimmy ).

27^th June 2009 – Smooth Tailgate fitted, a member on the forum was breaking his car, and I pounced on the opportunity of a ready made smoothed tailgate. Including the solenoid, and popper, and even better he fitted and did the wiring for me!

What a mess….currently connected through ignition live, I may rewire it to permanent live though….(Reiger gear knob here, bit marmite but I do like it.)

You wouldn’t know from this distance but it’s actually the wrong colour black!

17^th July I had another week off, so it was headliner retrim time! I knew I wanted to do it, just not had the guts to get on…….the side trims were done in black

Halfway through here, I actually did both of these twice, as I wasn’t happy with the first attempt!

When I came to the headliner I first tried a striped suit cloth, it looked really good on its own, but when it was combined in the car with the other trims it didn’t quite work. Luckily in November 07, I had already replaced my original with a brand new one which I found on ebay for £45, I decided to re-trim that one in black like the side trims…

Its good, but not perfect…….and unfortunately its just annoying me….so I have now picked up a 3^rd headliner and about to retrim that one…(next week!)

August 2008 - As you may remember, if you have got this far, I had the Jamex coilovers for almost 3 years, with the 2nd set of rear shocks fitted only 9 months previous - while I was having a G60 flywheel, and VR6 clutch fitted at easter (£50 breaker for the flywheel, £89 for the clutch, £200 fitted), I was told that the one of the rears was leaking. 1 month later they had all gone, and the ride was terrible!! Back on the phone to Midlandvw to see what my options were, and I decided to "upgrade" to Weitec GT Hicons. Have to say i was not disappointed, the ride was firm, but much more comfortable in my opinion, and you can tell where the extra money goes! At the same time I had my dogbone mount poly bushed, vibrations are apparent, but I feel more connected, so i can live with it!

So this is where we are now pretty much up to date, satin black handles and other bits (I have already decided to change them all to matt black, satin is too shiny for inside!)

Button to pop the boot (might get a different one, not sure this A8 one quite fits into the greater scheme) under the handbrake…admittedly a stolen idea, but such a good one!

The spacers really sorted out the stance really nice, just about right….not sure if I need any on the fronts or not yet?

My photo skills are to be desired….

He is bit of a moody cat, wouldn’t sit any closer……

The Future: I have already picked up some abs replica anniversary side skirts from a member (tgorman) back in June; I am going to be having the seats re-trimmed in the next month or so from a local guy, while he is at it he will be putting in the heated seat pads. Loom will be added later. Ill be on the look out for renewing/reviewing all the engine pipes and upgrading them, as well as a FMIC. A full respray is on the cards for March next year, which will include colour coding the valances, possible r-line bumper is in the works, and fitting the skirts, and after that ill be looking at turbos! KO3s hybrid? (then again I am always looking, bargains and impulse shopping is what its about!!)

The car is now on 140k miles and still going strong, I plan to keep going until it dies, then swap the engine. I still love to drive it 3 years on!!

Additions to above: Connect2 Ipod link April 2008, (Dension to replace it, which has been sat on my desk for the past year!), glove box replaced at the same time, Painted gloss black engine covers April 2009, (ill add a picture later), Bright White Interior LEDs all round July 2009, 3 major things I have got which I totally forgot, whiteline adjustable rear ARB, front upper and lower strut braces, and spacers!

Update 21st September 2009 - Interior Shots

I got another headliner, and recovered it in black, not because the previous one wasn't good, but more i wanted to do it better. I would say its now 98% perfect! the pictures speak for themselves, black is back!

Almost finished changing the interior parts to matt black too, i really really like how the sunglasses holder came out, it was originally beige! (thanks ben )

and my w8 light came out pretty good too, gonna leave the buttons like that, i like the contrast:

and lastly the passat wingmirror switch, using the guide off vwvortex, this was a piece of cake mod, pretty subtle but looks great in the dark! (shoulda cleaned it before taking pictures )

Updates 27th September 2009

Finished of the interior trim plastics today, all matt black now, including the interior sensors, also converted them both to white leds (alot easier than i expected!, just a bit fiddly)

Today I decided i better put its winter coat of wax on, so took a few pics after:

6th December 2009 Update - new seats

On friday I went up to a trimmer in north london. I had wanted a set for at least a year, only in the last 6months had i seriously started planning on getting the money together to do it, I did have a retrimmer lined up to do them over christmas, until golfedd () pointed me to these on ebay (some of you might have seen them in the ebay thread). So after a quick chat on the phone on thursday, I had taken a day off work and gone up. They are so close to what i wanted that it was too good a deal to pass up, only thing missing was the heated elements (which I had already pre bought), came to a deal with the guy to add them while i waited. 2 hours later, he had fitted the seats, and the door cards, and swapped over all the bits i wanted to keep................ (for those that are interested they are gen recaros, with extra foam added to the seat for support, and comfort)

big thanks to edd again for taking the pics for me (in the dark and rain ]. im clueless, i quite liked these.

14th December 2009 - Update

My headlights were baaaaaaaaaad, really chipped, almost cloudy. I had been wanting to do this mod for a while, just to see how it was done, and if i could do it, just to say thanks to antvw for the lenses (though i did break one, and have to buy another ), but i persevered - ill let my bad pictures do the talking:

Well well, seen as everyone's got one, would be rude if I didn't start mine.

My first vDub. Love it. Bought her on the 31st of December 2009.

This is how it looks. Enjoy.

Comments welcome - good or bad. BUT not just yet. Gotta' shout out to ma man Dele. Pretty much helped me all the way through (over the phone lol). I know I gave you a headache buddy.

Right so I decided the first 'mod' I'm gonna do is under the bonnet. So I took out what I needed:

Got the engine cover out, the thing below the engine cover and the battery cover. But they were dirty, so I gave 'em a good wash:

Popped to Halfords and got myself some grit:

Some grey primer:

...oh yea' and these bad boys:

Finally, to gloss it up, some universal clear lacquer:

So I started sanding after the wash using 800 Wet 'n' Dry.

A good layer of grey primer:

Then, from the bad boys that I showed you earlier, I done the first layer of beige.

...and then:

Well what about the others? Well let's see who can guess the effect I'm goin' for just from the colours.

NOTE: The engine cover is finished but I'll post some pictures tomorrow as I haven't had a chance to shoot any.

Oh and last but not least, shout out to DPM Performance! Got these from them (also installed, just no pictures yet):

Coilovers were a bit to expensive for me as I'm on a slight budget but always after quality, so I got the H&R Lowering Springs (50mm). It says 50mm but it's much lower than 50 I'm sure of that. Pictures of the drop and the engine cover will be up tomorrow and ready for March's 2010 West End Dubz.!

the past couple of days have been good for parts on the bora front so i'm starting a build thread now some decent work is imminent.

i'll start from the beginning when i bought it, a 2.0 8v se in standard form out of the auto trader and i got it for a good price (auto trader ad pic)

i had already found myself a full r32 grey interior including doorcards

then i found a cheap set of wheels, audi TT comps

next was coily's - i only went for budget ebay items as i'd liked them in my old mk3 golf gti

now it was lowered with the wheels and seats within a week of ownership things slowed up for a while. i fitted a debadged grill which left the 'notch' in the bonnet to be attended to later on.

i had to get rid of the walnut trim in the centre so i was kindly gifted some net optic trim that i sanded back to r32 style

i also did the ashtray a few days later but have no pics.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!!

So pleased, found a little jem on AutoTrader last night, phoned them amazingly it was still available!

BLACK, 1.4 S 16v, 2000 Model, 69k miles.. wanted 2k.. P/X my PUG 206 + £600.. Im so pleased, and i think its a bargain, its body work is imaculate, inside is one of the best i found on Trader, however there is 3 minor issues i need to address. Although, i HATE the wheels, that's right.. HATE. Will be checking the classifieds tommorow morning for a cheap set of alternatives for now!

This has now turned into my build thread, and i will begin re-arranging posts later to make it look a little more build thread like!

Seeing as I’m coming up to 5 years of ownership, I thought I would finally make a thread of some sort for my car. Not really a build thread, more a collection of photos!

Bought my beast of 1.4E completely standard back in Feb 2005 as my first car. It’s come a long way since then and has been a very slow process but it’s getting towards the vision I originally had.

I've owned her since March '09 and she's not been too well looked after. Only just started looking at upgrades etc but I though if I put this up it might persuade me to get some work done.

The only work that's been done so far is installing some Xenon look bulbs which have worked out nicely.

Rich's 1.8T Golf - Weekend updates

Hi guys, so iv been a member on here for a couple of years and thought i would show you what changes i have made to my golf so far.

So my last car was a peugeot 306:

I part exchanged this for my 1999 1.4 Golf - had 55k miles on the clock. here are come pics of it when i got it home:

The first thing i did was change the standard rear lights for GTi lights:

I also fitted a aero wiper on the rear and removed the fishing rod off the roof and put on a shorter one:

And the mkivs.net sticker - a must lol:

I then put on my private plate:

All these little bits were done in 2008. 2009 = new year, time for bigger changes.

changed the side repeaters from the orange ones to some clear ones, looks alot cleaner i think:

The car came with a light cream interior which i found a mission to keep clean so decided to start an interior change. I dont want to completely change over to a full dark interior so im planning to change the seats, door cards, roof trim, parcel shelf, and floor mats.

First changes are some black/blue recaro seats to replace the standard ones:

First in went the rear seats:

The i removed the front seats and fitted the new ones:

I cleaned up the centre dash as the rubbery texture had been rubbed off in a few areas. The previous owner had installed electric windows in the front - the switches are located in the cubby hole above the CD player. The pic was taken just after i had test fitted each part, hence all the finger marks and a slightly dodge corner on one of the pieces:

Next and latest stage are some new wheels, i dont know how iv lived with the standard ones so long.. A friend on my course at uni, who also has a golf on here, offered me some Audi A8 18"s for a decent price so went over to his to see what they looked like. The pic below shows them just resting against the car. I think they suit black golfs really well so will take them off him. Once rim is in need of a refurb so will either get that done or look for a new rim and keep that as a spare. Just waiting for him to pick up some wheel nute then they should be on next week!

So thats where im up to. Other parts that im looking out for are:

*front valance - 4motion maybe? maybe even an R32 front

*smooth rear

*lowering kit - as i guess it will be riding pretty high when i get the wheels on

Alright guys, been bugged a lot lately to make a build (or built) thread so here it is. Gunna keep it brief as quite a lot has already happened so here’s the short version of the story in rough chronological order:

THE PURCHASE

Got her on the 1^st of May 2008, here’s what she looked like:

First things first – got the front brakes and pads changed on the very day I bought her as they were in very poor shape. Then gave her in to a valetting company to give her a showroom freshness.

EARLY MODS

My first mods were Bora Sport clocks, Fk Angel-Eye headlights with HIDs (thanks to Amz for fitting these for me free of charge), Aero Wipers, CAI, BBS RC alloys (7.5j Anni ones, freshly refurbed) and a Milltek cat-back exhaust:

LOWERED

Had her lowered on Bilstein B4 shocks and Apex 45mm springs but these were quickly changed to Eibach 30mm springs as, due to not being very knowledgeable at the time and not getting very helpful advice from any mechanic I knew (unfortunately including AMD) it was low enough to be sitting on the bump stops which made things unbelievably uncomfortable. The eibachs helped for obvious reasons but looked nowhere near as nice as the Apex springs in this pic:

LITTLE TOUCHES

Faisal (faisal_16) also helped me out with fitting my delock kit and also doing the Sharan badge mod:

BRAKES

I then had a very nice package arrive from DaveB:

So we fitted them...........

POWER

It was then time for some engine work. So I got myself a 2.5” downpipe with a 200-cel Sports Cat. It was then remapped along with a fitment of a silicone TIP to achieve approximately 235bhp. No pics unfortunately.

BODY WORK

Thennn of course it was time to have her look the part...went for a de-badged R32 front-end (genuine R32 bumper straight from VW) with Anni Skirts, Anni rear, deleted read badge, painted de-badged grill and 3 lower vents gloss black, and added an LCR splitter:

Then I finally got me some coilovers (Weitecs) and then she sat like this:

Since then she’s had new rims (to some LM reps for now), carbon grill, carbon dash trim, Eibach 25mm ARBs (birthday present from uni friends J), R32 steering wheel, and with the help of a friend I changed the cambelt/waterpump/thermostat last week. Here are some random pics taken within the last few months by various people (thanks):

LOTS! Looking for more power, FMIC, meth injection, R32/R-line rear with custom exhaust style, tints, new (less common) rims, interior re-trim, TT/R32 hubs and rack, and I’m sure I can list a lot more (unfortunately).

Im part of the turbo crew.. big jump from my 1.4e.. Finnaly got myself a 1.8t today.. got a few teaser pics from original add.. but the car will totally transform tommrowo as im going to be taking alloys etc from my other golf and transfering it to the new golf..

I have to say what a difference.. the handling.. the power.. im in love.. ive already done 150 miles in it.. and ive been at work today too.. haha.. had a 200 mile round trip to pick it up.. anway the car stats:

By tommorow i wil update with the new transformation pics.. :) i cant wait...! The modding bug has seriously got me!!

Old car - brand new 2006 Ibiza 1.4 Sport:

The ibiza was so thirsty as i had to rev the nuts off it all the time as the engine was gutless...but as i always wanted a VW and a diesel i opted for a larger more practical family car.. Bora TDI SE in Graphite Blue Pearl.

My 1st mods were a blue alrm LED, Glasses holder and stubby aerial ( the "cheap mods for skint people" has been a very useful thread ! )

After owning the Bora for 2 weeks I decided that it was perfectly fine to go and manoeuvre your car about a farm (private land) after drinking alchohol all afternoon and evening. I scraped it down a concrete post.... don't do it kids! This cost me £300 that i was planning on putting towards wheels and lowering ! lesson learned !

Time to sort out the 4x4 tractor look, After reading up and conversing with folk I did plan on getting Koni STRT suspension but after reading alot of reviews on the Jamex/vmaxx coilovers and hearing problems about the ride height being uneven with some Koni fixed height kits I decided to book into midland VW and get the Jamex fitted last month :-

Most recent addition has been this little german badge from Eurobadgez, i'm still unsure about it but it does give a little flash of colour to the front end :-

Thats all for now, planning on getting a remap in the future and maybe a gli or 4motion colour coded front valance/lip ( prob. 4motion as i am a poor poor man ! )

hey folks, hope you like my new car cos i certainly do!

its a 2002 Bora 1.8t sport (AUM)

colour is "Match stick red pearl"

and it only has 44k miles on the clock (its just over 45k now though)

it came with the tints, exhaust and a debadges grill, so far my touches include...

putting the standard grill back on for a start! then fitted a K&N panel filter, some Eibach Pro Street-S Coilovers, Whiteline front anti-roll bar, 25mm PCD adaptors and some 7.5x17" Original Audi wheels with 195/45R17 Eagle F1's. also just fitted new bumper grills as the ones on it were painted metalic black with a red flake through it, which i wasnt too keen on.

i'll start from how i got the car and you can see the progress for yourself...

eventually got the wheels changed, i had to wait for my bro to get his new wheels as he had the adaptors on his car lol

i know the reps look nice but everyone and their dog has them so they had to go!

and if anyone can show me another Bora with THESE wheels, id like to know!

Right its about time i started a build thread, don’t think i have much to right about but here goes

Chapter 1 It all starts now

I bought my mk4 November 07’ish

My first post on the forum was a classic forum post that will crop up till the end of time

Chapter 2 A Bright Idea...

Just starting to get in to moding after reading a few posts i had a few bright ideas, needles to say they aren’t that tasteful...

I pulled out the original gamma HU and replaced it with a ripspeed fold out screen, thought this was the best thing ever at the time lol oh how my opinion changes

Decided to place some red LED’s in the cubby hole, i liked it at the time but not my thing now i don’t think

The LED’s didn’t stop there though they went on to the next chapter

Chapter 3 Blue Peter Time

So at this point i thought i was uber cool making my own grill badge oh what a fool i was to not only put it on the wrong side but to drag my brother down with me

Chapter 4 performance clean?

At this point in my cars life after my first few niggles such as broken CV, hand break cable snap, split boost pipes and a few other random posts i felt like the car was underperforming

I read a few things on cleaning your inlet manifold and egr so thought id give it a shot only my mechanical skills wasn’t up to scratch and i couldn’t work out how to remove the egr valve!

So away i went and started scraping away with a spoon to remove the nasty gunk inside the egr and then went to town using the 10k boost cleaner

turns out it did work, made the car feel a lot better for such little work

Chapter 5 Music to my Arms...

Ok so i started to get a little more adventurous, decided to mount a ipod in my armrest the prototype was made true josh style and was used with boxer material lol

as you can see it wasn’t the best looking prototype but still a prototype

made the real thing a few days later worked well and looked better but not perfect

Chapter 6 Bake me a Light as Fast as You Can

Just a small chapter

I found one of my lights was misting up so before i replaced it i removed it and the wiring and baked it in a electrical oven for around 10 mins then put sealer all around the back

Stopped the misting

Then bought new lights and threw old ones away before i found out what the joey mod was L

Chapter 8 My Big Fat Fail

Chapter 9 Brake a Break

Needed new brake pads so took a trip to Halfords and got a set fit them and all was fine until a month or 2 later i felt the breaking was going to pot

turns out the pad had split in 2 right down the middle :O

Chapter 10 a Bit Dim

I had the chance to break a mk4 and claim all the prizes J so i started with the auto dimming mirror,

To cut a long story short i couldn’t find a way to get the mirror to fit to the glass L was absolutely gutted as a few weeks after throwing the wiring away my window screen was replaced... still kept the mirror in though as it looks nice and beefy

Chapter 11 im Lazy When i Window

Took a trip to niel the blokes a star, never seen a garage as clean as his was mesmerised by it, any way went to get MTE and realised i couldn’t so came away with Auto Windows... neat little feature to make your friends go ooooooo

Chapter 12 My First Real Mod

After poking my nose around on the forum and asking 2 questions shy of a million i finally took the plunge and started my climate control conversion, managed to get hold of all the parts for cheap so i went in head first at the deep end and walked away warm J full thread can be found here

as you can see i took the pants ripspeed head unit out and replaced it with the gamma head unit with a ipod lead J also put dark wood trim in, really like this trim with the colour of my car

at some point of this install i built my own cruise control loom and fitted it to a stalk J what a modification that was

After reading up some more on here i found a guide on colour coding the front and rear valances, so as usual i gave it a shot

i managed to repair all my door lock modules so that when i press the lock button all the door locks don’t just go crazy , i had my problems with this and lost my temper more than once but i managed to right a small guide which can be used to give a understanding (rear doors)

Chapter 15 New clocks

After fitting my first set of half screens i was well chuffed with my self only to be bought back down to earth when i went to Neil to get MTE enabled and it couldn’t be done, a few weeks searching and i had my self a new set of clocks and a key fob to learn how to code in my self J

Managed to get there in the end J

No sooner had o fit the clocks i had a ABS problem, i managed to code the abs out the car ecu...

For months this went on and on and i couldn’t find a solution, until one day i found out that the fuses under the battery can melt due to a poor design by VW

Replaced the fuse and hey presto working ABS wicked

Chapter 16 Lets get Low

Managed to get my brother Coils J wound them down and thought at the time i was dirty low... obviously not as im still going lower each week lol, one of the best things i ever done were coils.

Also another set of wheels, took those nasty 17’s off and put these £30 (i think) standard 15’s on

Was well chuffed

Chapter 18 Bodge mod

I took the cassette player apart and put a cassette to 3.5 lead tape in there...

I ran the wire through the stereo housing and put the cassette player back together J

Then extended the 3.5 jack and hey presto you cant tell its there

Chapter 19 Bodge mod didn’t last long lol

Id never seen a delta 6 till i found and bought this one on ebay

Got it for £65 with all wiring code and ipod connector

Didn’t realise how good a deal i got lol

Never looked back since it went in,

Also the holder for the ipod, another great investment J never ever ever come across another one :O

Chapter 20 Bolf front L

Was going down the bolf front went and got all the stuff and decided against it so sold it on to gbear (great chap) managed to fit the entire front in my rear *blush* LMAO

Chapter 21 Spaced out man

Managed to sort my spacers out J cost a pretty penny but been well worth the buy

15mm FK’s what a treat

Wouldn’t need much use for those spacers on my 15’s so got these little things

I thinks it stood quite well J unfortunate about the bulge in the tyre though

Chapter 23 I can seeeeeee

Got my self some cheap HID ballast and bulbs from the old bay 5.5k i think

Haven’t got any pics but think there a fantastic buy (i only use them pointed at the floor haven’t come accors any projector housing at the right price yet)

I originally mounted the ballasts on the side of the water bottle and battery, it looked neat and tidy but wasn’t happy with seeing them there off they went and was fixed to the bumper bar... best place for them in my opinion

Chapter 24 OOOPS

Got me some new piping from the scrappy to replace my worn out vacuum hosing, turns out im stronger than i thought lol... busted my vacuum reservoir, just putting a link to this as iv seen 2 other people do the same since

Chapter 25 got a warm batty

Didn’t take any pictures of this but after spending many a month looking for heated seat pads and wiring i succeeded... peeled back the seat material and hey presto a few f words and saw thumbs and i managed to get seat pads in and wiring and there we go..i have a warm batty lmao

Chapter 26 self re-trim

Took the plunge, many hours peeling foam and sanding card so i was ready to re-trim my door cards J used a red foax leather, was a steep learning curve... not sure if any one can see but i didn’t use foam underneath so i could achieve a hard look where you can see door card mouldings, bit of a different look... its no professional finish but im happy with it

Chapter 27 stupid wishbones

I had never replaced a wish bone until this day

What a job it was

Actually wasn’t that bad once i had done the first wishbone the second wishbone was a doddle

Any way reason for this was the bush’s had gone and i was getting crazy pull problems (see videos)

Any one with these problems i recommend you change your wishbones changed the way i feel about my car completely

Chapter 29 Actual EGR and Manifold clean

Felt it was time to do a real job cleaning the egr and manifold pictures speak for them self tbh

Oh i sprayed the manifold red (messing around) i had a 150pd manifold ordered but the sale fell through so im stuck with a red manifold now lol

To cut a long story short my clutch went so had to get a new one

At the same time my oil cooler went

Ok so after a lot of messing around i have started the new year with a new aim of just getting recognised would love some one to say thats nice or did you see that car lol not saying i will get a feature but id love to get on a stand

I wanted to go original but thats not realy happened so just hope when it comes back from body shop it will look great and make heads turn

Bought some pepper pots in the effort to be different

Went through all these designs to find out what to do with them and in the end came up with a completely different idea lol its a secret for now

As seems customary round here, it's time I started myself a build thread...

The car is a 2002 Golf Mk4 TDI 100 PD Auto. I'd have preferred a manual but the missus has only got an auto licence, so an auto it had to be.

Don't expect the motor to be lowered, chipped and bodykitted - or cleaned and polished every week - that's not what I'm into (and I bought it to drive it). I prefer subtle mods that look stock or use OEM bits, enhance my driving experience, don't ruin the fuel economy - and that don't affect my insurance! Plans so far:

Car computer
Subwoofer
Fix the faults/niggles
Front fogs
Wood trim
Ventectomy
3 button remote keys
2nd fog light
Delock

Getting tempted by:

Flush illuminated (R32/Bora) vents

Bagged this beaut off a lady called Caroline on the R32OC and her friend Steve (Macdaddy), a couple of weeks ago.
Posting was a bit delayed due to a host of problems, some being the car-related (overheating engine = week in the garage), and the others being stupidity-related (cross threading 4 out of 5 wheel bolts when changing wheels over - undrivable for 3 days)

Which means i've only had about 4 days driving time, but the main differences i've felt so far from the 1.8T are;

1. the mental throttle response - this thing literally wants to go all the time, you push the fun pedal 1mm = 10ft of road travelled! Made traffic driving a bit tiresome so now i start in 2nd nearly all the time, unless i need to get somewhere sharpish and then it's only about 1 and a half seconds before next gearchange is needed Oh, and the first time i drove it i bunnyhopped it halfway down the road and looked a fool driving away until i finally got used to it

2. linear power - You always had to be aware of the 3k upwards power band in the 1.8T, i've been caught out quite a few times by *ahem* "lesser cars" (corsas and the like!) from standing starts cos the car used to always bog down until the turbo kicked in by which time the shame had already been implanted forever in the memory of your passengers. WIth this now, even starting in second gets a fairly rapid take off, and i dont have to worry about taking tight openings at roundabouts for fear of no power/wheelspin with too much power since the 4wd takes care of that.

3. 4WD - it's taking a while to get used to the fact that more power in a corner can bite the car into the road and pull you through a corner, whereas more power round a corner in the 1.8T was an express ticket to understeer hell/parking in a wall. it takes a bit of balls to keep on the power after having to un-learn it as a no-no in the GTI, but will prob get there with practice.

i probably watched that about 300 times and i think it brainwashed me into taking a loan

I can probably write more after i've driven it a bit longer, especially since i recently got this bad boy;

Which i was given free Much Thanks to Revo Kev along with a remap, good bloke knows his stuff and his after sales customer service has been spot on (replying emails within half hour, patiently explaining codes/settings/instructions etc) all the more impressive that he wasnt making any money off it but still gave up a lot of time

the immobiliser function is pretty cool and gives me a bit of peace of mind, it's also good to be able to switch from stock to performance, hot weather/cold weather settings

~ edited for some old pictures since I got the car

a couple of days after I picked it up in September 2004

first mods I did was the black VW badge

followed by the Hella lights, which went very soon after

then went completely the wrong way and fitted some ACE132s before I lowered it.

and the Bora vents, Alpine HU

painted my centre console pieces in Rover's Charcoal shade

decided to paint a couple of the wheels black which I regretted within minutes of fitting them

so I did a swap with Hep for these wheels

I got some FK Konigsports too which helped with the look

also I tried some Anniversary headlights. Since gone back to standard

and went taking lots of photos

but the paint on the wheels was getting a little tatty and chipped so I had them powdercoated

and now, here's the result

I wanted a lighter shade this time, which when I originally dropped them off was plain silvery grey. Driving home I had a few negative thoughts as to my choice, so I rung back and spoke to the chap doing the job if he could do a bit of a mix with the lacquer and add a drop of black. That's how they turned out ^^

'Wait until the weather gets better before fitting' I kept telling myself after I picked them up yesterday..... That lasted until this morning So after a coat of Collinite on they went - sorry I didn't get adventurous with the photo locations (usual places for me) planning on some better pics once I've cleaned it

Must say thanks for the job to Diamond Wheels in Stockport, Steve who did them was a bit wary of doing the lacquer / black mix but tried it on some of his own wheels before doing mine and really went the extra bit for me top chap

Thought id make a thread about how the Bora's taking shape...

It already had the V-Maxx Coilovers fitted by the previous owner along with the Gloss black Roof, Mirrors and Front Grills. And the Red Brake Calipers.

So heres it the next day after a good clean.

Then through February I put on some stickers, changed the sidelights to LED's, the headlamps to H4 Xenon's and the Indicators to Silvatec's, then Painted the Engine cover.

Through March, I got the Splitters and Mirror base-plates colour coded for £100 by the Polish guys in Houston Ind Est.

And I painted some more under the bonnet with "Vauxhall Arden Blue": All Lids, the hydraulic Stay rod thing, Fuse cover, and a trunking for some wiring.

In April, I got Keyed Twice. =/ Bad times. Heres a picture of the second one.

Out with the touch up paint and some polish and t-cut, got the one on the side looking much better, but the bonnet (Pictured) still looks shoot.

I tinted the taillights with a light black tint to take the standard look away and it looks no bad but Im gonna make them all red instead. Thats taken care of.

Then I bought a Pionner headunit for £77, pretty decent sound quality and it takes USB and AUX stuff so it was pretty good. For 2 days until it flipped up and I sent it back to the supplier.

Thats where it stands now...
Got a few more things to add in the next week or so. Made a few orders on eBay yesterday. =D

I'll hopefully be getting some Wheels pretty soon, this month I hope.

Well as some of you may know, I had a bit of bad luck with my mk4 - but this is the replacement - a 2002 Bora Sport 1.8T. I bought this car around the beginning of May as I needed to get back on the road asap; but after picking it up I had a rough idea of the route I was going to go with it from day one.

Anyway here it is in standard form.

Fitted my R32 trim that I managed to salvage from the mk4.

Some work in progress pics, spraying the valances and skirts and fitting the coilovers, plus giving the brakes a coat of red paint.

Hi all

i bought this golf gt tdi 130 pd on the 13/01/10 after having a 90bhp tdi golf, It has 63k with full vw service history

below is pictures of how it is now (Standard)

first on the list was to remove the egr valve and clean it out

so cleaned it as best as i could (stained my hands and cant seem to get it off lol)

then intake manifold

cleaner but not brilliant

Was susprised how much crap there was especially with 63k on but all good now

Next i have just got some red silicon vacuum pipes to go on 3mm and 5mm, a new front number plate as is cracked (not me honestly) and paint calipers red.

Hi everyone, Ive been wanting to start a build thread for a while now as my Stock GTI 1.8t will be transforming over time into a road racer.

The goal of any and all of my mods are: Usable on road performance.

OK that's enough jibber jabber for now, time for some and details... enjoy!

This is how the car was mid/late last year... fully stock (apart from the anni GTI badge on the grill I stuck on lol)

The car was in great condition including the engine (new hoses etc):

Then the modding bug bit, I started with a stage 1 Remap by APR, and a (black limited edition) forge 007p DV - Drove all the way down to awesome GTI from Newcastle and then back home again in less that half a day to get it done (luckily i had my m8s come along to keep me company) :D that's how we roll.

Below is a pic of the Awesome APR computer loading the stage 1 remap onto my ECU

I then changed the front valance from a black one, over to the colour matched OEM version removing the 'high front end' look,

Then Winter hit, and hit hard...

once that was over I gave the car a good clean

I gave her an oil change (mobil 1 FS) and fitted some new brake disks with TAROX strada brake pads...

You can still see the cross hatching from the machining of the disk

AND just today I took delivery of these little beauties...

Lets get LOW LOW LOW LOW haha

KW varient 2 Coilovers ready to be installed...

With stock front ARB i plan a 40mm drop (handling needs to be good)

I wont be fitting them immediately due to the bad weather and worse roads (potholes everywhere)

NEXT: I plan on fitting a rear ARB to improve handling, along with some much needed good tires (bridgestone if I can get a deal) This will be followed later in the year with a turbo back exhaust (milltek) and a stage 2 APR remap

Think its about time i got a progress thread going for the new car, not much happening for the minute partly because i wont be putting it on the road till the 28th may, only 2 weeks away i cant wait :) Sold the saxo a while back to fund my golf addiction :p after one viewing which was a major fail i was changing my mind to mk5s until and absolute gem of a mk4 came up in rotherham, so i arranged to go down on a saturday, couldn't of asked for better weather to view it and couldn't of asked for a better condition car. Mk4 golf r32 in deep pearl blue (my favourite colour on these) 36k on the clock and he only wanted 11500, only problem it needed two front tyres in which i got him down to 11300, i would not of been bothered as i would of payed more than the asking price. Drive home was awesome, smile on my face said it all. Anyway enough of the talking heres the pictures the day i got it

V5 came and with my plate on retention i sent it right back out within an hour of receiving the new logbook lol Pictures of the plates (these were on the saxo, ill eventually get some new ones made as there bent from taking them off)

Road angel hard wired in, matches the interior nicely and prefer it were it is rather than stuck in the middle of the dash

Little video of how she sounds, pretty healthy to me ;) and need to wet my appetite on a daily occurrence

Had a little scare the other day, i had it running and decided to try the maf sensor test by disconnecting it to see if it was worse or better without it, got back in the car and the EPC and ESP lights were on, nothing a little bit of disconnecting the battery for ten minutes didn't solve phewww :p Car is standard apart from a pipercross induction Anyway near future plans are 2 new front pilot sports (will be done the day im insured)

Good detail with a full machine polish done by me ;)

Hello and welcome to my build thread. I thought I would start a thread so that I could track the progress of my car, and to hopefully pick up some comments good or bad.

I am 20 years old and after using my parents 2007 1.2 Corsa for a year I thought it was time for an upgrade. So after weeks of searching for a car my insurance would allow I bought this MK3 Golf 1.8 SE.

This is the day I bought it.

After just over a year and a good majority of all the money I had earned it looked like this

After just under 2 years of ownership and mounting running costs I thought I would start looking for something a little more reliable and economical. So as soon as I turned 20 the hunt was on. At first I wanted to get a b5 or b5.5 Passat, however after checking all the insurance companies I soon found out that wasn’t going to happen. So it was then I started looking for a bora. I really wanted to get a tdi however again insurance was my greatest downfall. It was then I started looking at smaller petrol engines and found what was going to be my next car.
It is a 2004 1.6 16v bora with only 19,000 miles on the clock when I bought it. It was formerly owned by a diplomat, then by a lady who did less than 2000 miles a year. It came with full VW service history, but other than that it is complete poverty spec.

Here are a few pics the day I bought it.

I then decided to buy a set of BBS LM reps, they were 18” 8j fronts and 9j rears. I refused to put them on my car until I sorted the suspension out. So I then ordered a set of Jom Plus Coilovers from DPM Performance. After an agonising couple of weeks finding insurance that would cover these mod’s I could finally start transforming my car.

This is how the car looks now, saying I’m happy is a complete understatement!

I then decided to get a few stickers, I’m currently waiting for the all important uk-mkivs sticker to arrive.

That’s as far as I’ve got for now. I now need to replenish my funds and then I have a few other bits and bobs planned.

so hi new to the forum, just thought id chuck my car up and see wot u all thinks. ive owned it for over 3 years and started very slowly as never had any money to spend on it. but last half a year has developed fast, and is finaly getting to were i want to go with it.

so started like this only higher and without the paint on the rims

so then went for some crazy wheels, jom coilovers, audi tt front brakes, lupo mirrors and a few other lil bits and bobs.

liked the wheels but couldnt be bothered to get them referbed, and were wide enough, so went for these, from a now mate in bristol.

so this i basicaly how it is at the mo, but also had a few lil bits done, like my headlinner lol

delocked the doors

and my newest toy, the funk

so there it is my lil car.

some future plans will include somee body work as looking a lil shabby in places. also love to do an engine swap 1 day (1.8t or r32) as only a 2.0 gti.

some time very soon i will be getting air ride fitted just waiting for the company to finnish my struts and it will be booked in, probaly around the end of the month.

so thats about it really hope u like or even if u dont let me no, cheers kyle

Alright ladies and gents,

Been on here for quite awhile now n afew of you have been askin if i have a build thread on the go.

Thought id get my finger out and do one so here we go,enjoy......................

September 08 got my 1st car,wasnt originally after a Golf,i wanted an A3 n was everywhere trying to find a good one,at the time they were like rocky horse poo,loads of "shopping cars" with high miles and/or car park dings for 2-4k but nothing nice fo around the 7-8k i had.

To cut a long story short i went with my gf down to Sheffield to see a minter (apparently! ) got there after paying a deposit and speaking to the garage 3 or 4 times and it was a DOG,rusty,needing the 60k service and dodgy paint!! Was gutted,angry and 145quid out of pocket in train ticket fairs

I rang a local VAG dealer that id been recommend,he gets alot of cars from main dealers that are abit too old or high miles to put on theyre forecourt and he asked me if id thought of a Golf?

I hadnt TBH but did like them,was probably the only other car that i wouldve liked,hadnt really looked into them much in the way of spec etc and TBH if i hadve i think i wouldve bought a PD130 but thats by the by.

He told me he'd just taken in 53 plate PD100,66k,18" alloys,already lowered and FVWSH,he said if i wanted it they would service it,mot it and do the cam belt and water pump before i took it away.

He stayed open for me to go and have a butchers so when we got back my lasses dad picked us up from the train station and off we went,the rest is history and an empty bank account!

I regestered on here on started have a browse,anyway,heres afew pics for you to look at........

Couple of weeks later i came across the "cheap mods for skint people" thread and got afew bits n pieces.......

Painted my grill black and ordered some black badges

Then i did the "Fablon mod"

Beginning of 2009 and after Santa had been i had afew more goodies for my lil car.

Got some new M3 style rear lights and some 2nd hand genuine Anniversary headlights with i fitted a 6K HID kit and some LED side light bulbs too.

Got my windows tinted,pressed plates and surrounds and a rear Aero wiper to go with the fronts.

Also colour coded my rear badge and put my silver one back on the front as i thought the black one with a black grill looked a little lost.

Beginning of March 09 i decided to start gettin the body work sorted,i hated the spoiler that was on an wanted it taken off.

I rang round a couple of local body shops and they wanted a fortune,the muppet that put it on didnt just bond it on,he bolted it on aswell! which meant there was holes to be welded up!

I messaged Jake on here for abit of advice and he came to my rescue,told me he had a Reflex Silver one without a spoiler on in the stores and for and hours labour i could go down and he'd swap it over and just keep mine

Champion i thought,so made arrangements and off i went to Panelcare,HOWEVER.......

I made the mistake of looking at pics of Golfs with smoothed tailgates and it all went abit Pete Tong!

Loved the euro look and wanted a smooth back end so i whipped the wiper off,filled the hole with a glass bung from Venom and ended up with this......

And so it starts........

By the end of March my car was back with Jake@Panelcare getting its 1st big make over.

I bought some genuine Anni valances to go with my lights but was in two minds about what skirts i wanted.

Was trying to think of something different when i remembered about a thread on here where someone had p'shopped some LCR skirts onto a MK4,i quite liked the look and got thinking.

I joined Cupra.net to see if theyre was any skirts in the classified and i couldnt believe how lucky i was when someone had put a set up the night before for 80quid!!

I messaged him straight away and said i was interested,explained what they were for but wasnt sure if theyd fit.

They were cracked at one end but asked him to measure them for me and i go on the blower to Jake.

Turns out they were about an inch to long which was perfect as it meant Jake could chop out the cracked bit,plastic weld them back up and smooth them,bobs youre uncle and i have my one off skirts.

Im yet to see another MK4 with them on

Like i said i love euro styled car but wanted mine to be different,came across this car and quite liked the look of the front end..........

I bought a Merc Sprinter vent and boxed it up with everything else ready for my make over.

Id seen the new Ronel wheels in PVW and HAD to have them,thought they would suit my car perfect so got on the phone to Rimstyle and payed my deposit.

4 weeks later i got made redundant from work and had to cancel my order!!

Gutted wasnt the word as i was going to get one of the 1st sets in th UK and to make it worse i explained the situation to Rimstyle and the w$nkers wouldnt gimme my deposit back

Anyway,i picked my car up from Jakes and was over the moon,had the bumpers smoothed with the valances smoothed in,the skirts shortened and fitted,wing vent grafted in.roof,side strips and mirrors painted gloss black and the front end debadged with a very subtle bad boy done and was really happy with the work

To anyone that doesnt know of Jake and Panelcare they are spot on,very reasonable and if anything isnt quite right for what ever reason theyll go out theyre way to sort it asap!

Heres afew pics from my 1st proper photoshoot,was really happy with how they turned out.

Was especially happy with the painted roof,the reflection was mint!

Thats how my car stayed for quite some time,i was out of work for 7months and things were very tight!

Was gutted about my wheels as i thought the A8s were really letting the side down

My next little mod was a cheap one but looked cool,i saw the tax disk holders on ebay with GTi etc etched into them and send a message to the bloke asking if he could do a custom one for me with my car on,got this back........

Pretty cool eh??!!

August 09 time i decided i was getting abit bored with the M3s,i ordered some tint spray off the tinternet and made myself some all red rears,sold the M3s and just used the poverty spec ones i got on my car,they turned out pretty well and changed the look of the back end.

About the same time i got myself a lil stick on plate,loved it as it kept the front end nice n clean but obviously highly illeagal,thought better of it and took it off after a couple of weeks.

I also decided it was about time i colour coded the side strips with me not having my black Ronel wheels so did it one morning after nightshift.

Pikey style on the drive,masked up with the Nuts id been reading at graft the night before!

Came out quite well,not perfect but was never going to be doing it on the drive but i was happy anyway

In september while on a usual Ebay browsing session i came across these and HAD to have them,wheels were letting the side down big style and these were perfect,they were way cheap too so messaged the bloke and said i wanted them!

They were mint,18's,genuine 3pc Porka cup wheels,8.5j fronts and 10 rears!!!

How wide please??!!

He told me that he shouldve taken the advert off ebay and they were gone,NOOOOOOO,fookin gutted i was but the next day he rang me back and said they hadnt!?! Dodgy dealer maybe,yes,bothered? NO!

Was happy as larry,told him that i deff 100% wanted them and id be down asap!

Down was Luton,from Newcastle,a canny trip,was knackered off the 500 mile round trip in a day but was sooooo worth it!

Thats about how my car looks today,wheels arnt on yet with the rubbish weather and wont be for quite awhile,got plans for next year and they arnt going on till then.

Ive still been a busy lad tho and started sorting afew things for its next big make over next year.

Feb/March time its getting a full respray and a colour change,body work is getting finished and wheels/stance are getting nailed,basically the whole of the outside of the car is getting completely finished.

I CANT WAIT!!

And to go with the coilovers i got a spare sump,im going to get an Ali plate welded to it at work to do away with the sump guard,should be plenty strong enough with 5/6mm plated welded to the bottom and you cant really get much closer either,i wanna go looooooooowwww!

Last but deff not least afew of you may have seen a fair bit of carbon talk on here lately,well i started this weeks ago just wanted to keep schtum,might aswell show you all what ive been busy with lately!

Also been on with the door handles,everything is working out pretty well,even if i do say so myself!!

All im going to say about the handles is they are going to be alot more sutble with the colour change!!
